Are Shade Sails Waterproof?
Sail shades supplied by Shade Sails France are designed to provide the coolest shade possible and for this reason they are constructed from a slightly porous Sail Clth that allows hot air to escape through the fabric. Shade Sails will resist a slight shower, but should not be considered truly waterproof.
How Easy Is The Installation Of A Shade Sail?
This very much depends on the site and the skils of the installer. Typically, two people reasonably competent in DIY could install a Shade Sail in a couple of hours. Note that more time may be required if solid fixing points are not available - in which case additional time will be required for concreting in fixing posts for example.
What Can A Shade Sail Be Fixed To?
Shade sails are easily attached to structures that provide a good firm fixing. This could be the wall of a house or wooden or metal posts concreted into the ground. Bear in mind that Shade Sails are quite large and the forces generated at the mountings by even a small amount of wind can be considerable.
What Can Sail Shades Be Used For?
Sail shades are design to bring shade into the garden and provide a shelter from the sun's harmful rays. The sail cuts out up to 90% of harmful UV and provides a stylish and pleasant area to enjoy your garden or terrace. Because of the size, shade sails are very useful at providing privacy in garden flats, patios and balconies that are overlooked.
How Much Of The Year Can A Shade Sail Be Used For?
Because the Shade Sails we supply are UV stablised and are very well constructed with webbed edges, they can be left in place for 10 months of the year and only taken down when bad weather is forecast. Once installed, with quick release snap-hooks a Shade Sail can be taken down and stored in less than 5 minutes. Our Sail Shades are guaranteed for 10 years.
What Fittings Will I Need?
On a square sail you will need four snap hooks, four pad eyes (or eye bolts) and four turnbuckles to tension. A triangle shade sail only three of each fitting will be required. To gain further extension from the support if required, a length of stainless steel chain can be used.
How Much Distance Should Be Allowed Between The Shade Sail And Fixing Points?
The minimum distance should be 300mm to allow for adequate tensioning.
How Do I Clean A Shade Sail?
A hose pipe and soft brush is all that is recommended to clean your sail.
What Colours Are Available?
Shade Sails France currently supplies Sail Shades in three colours - Architectural Grey, Porcelain and Coastal Sand.
